NEW - WORKING AT HEIGHTS TRAINING STANDARD IN ONTARIO
As most of you are aware, Ontario has adopted a new Training Standard for those companies that have employees working at height.
The standard requires the approval of both the training facilitators and of the curriculum that will be delivered.
STACS Inc. is pleased to announce that we have received approval from the Ministry of Labour to deliver our Working At Heights training program.
Although initially intended for the Construction industry, it’s quite clear that the MOL will transfer this responsibility into all other workplaces. Please keep in mind that although you may currently work in an Industrial Establishment, Health Care facility, etc., there may be construction activities conducted via contractors, or even your maintenance staff, so this Regulation could apply to your firm.
As a matter of background, the new Working at Heights Training Program Standard has very meticulously outlined how the training must be conducted and delivered.
Training must consist of 2 modules; the first will cover the theory behind working at heights safely. This portion of the program must entail at least 3 hours of in-class instruction. The second module, requires “hands on” instruction; focusing on the proper inspection and practical application of the equipment. This segment must involve a minimum of 3.5 hours of instruction.
Finally, the training will have to documented and tracked. All training records must be submitted to the MOL, for their review.
